The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy

This book is for everyone no matter you are eight or eighty, you can go dip into anywhere anytime , start from the middle and scribble around the corners to your interpretation.

It is a graphic novel, the pictures and text work together to tell a story about friendship and acceptance. The boy attempts to find his home alone, he meets a mole, a fox, and a horse that became his companions on the journey through the wilderness and the river. The book is about friendship, advice, and lessons accompanied by fanciful hand-drawn illustrations that inspire and encourage us to embrace love, life, and hope.

The divinity about the book is it's realistic approach towards life and how everything in this book is right there in front of our eyes it's just that we never notice it.

As the boy says "I think everyone is just trying to get home"

All four characters represent different parts of the same person,” Charlie Mackesy explained, “the inquisitive boy, the mole who's enthusiastic but a bit greedy, the fox who's been hurt so is withdrawn from life, slow to trust but wants to be part of things, and the horse who's the wisest bit, the deepest part of you, the soul.”

My favorite quotes from the book

  • "The greatest illusion is that life should be perfect"
  • "Doing nothing with friends is never doing nothing"
